As of now, more than half of the lambing and raising work in Inner Mongolia's animal husbandry industry this year has been completed, with lambing rates and survival rates for both large and small livestock higher than the same period last year, indicating a positive production outlook.
It is understood that the total number of lambs and calves born in the region reached 28.5 million, an increase of 672,000 compared to the same period last year. Among them, 27.933 million survived, an increase of 629,000 compared to the same period last year. The survival rate of young animals reached 98%, an increase of 0.1 percentage points compared to the same period last year. The reasons for the positive production outlook of lambing and raising in animal husbandry this year are:
Mainly: a significant increase in the number of basic breeding livestock last year; rapid development of Small-tailed Han sheep in some leagues and cities; and the high importance attached to animal husbandry development across the region, with the strategy of 'cultivating for raising and farming for herding' being implemented, and the construction of sheds and barns, forage planting, and storage work reaching a new level. However, due to several consecutive snowfalls in some leagues and cities in March, the lambing and raising work was affected to varying degrees.
